Gatta Kusthi, the tamil comedy drama movie which hit theatres in December 2022 and started streaming on Netflix India from January 1st, 2023 was well received and went on to be in the Top 10 list on Netflix India earlier this month.The movie which was directed by Chella Ayyavu who had previously directed Silukkuvarupatti Singam in 2018 also starring Vishnu Vishal in the lead role has come with his new directorial venture, Gatta Kusthi, which is basically a form of submission wrestling in the mud that is popular in certain regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the movie is set in this back ground.
Movie synopsis :
The movie revolves around Keerthi ( Aishwarya Lekshmi ) a young wrestling champion from Palakkad whose family is hunting for prospective grooms for her and is unfortunately unsuccessful , when the most recent proposal also ends up falling apart because of Keerthis reputation as a wrestler, Keerthis father suffers a heart attack and Keerthi ends up saying yes to the proposal of Veera (Vishnu Vishal) a male chauvinist who has preconceived antiquated notions of how his wife should be-the exact opposite of Keerthi, who enters the marriage under false pretense. The couple soon start falling for each other, but things take a turn for the worse when the secrets come out.
Overall Remarks :
Gatta Kusthi is the kind of movie that is well made and has a decent cast but still manages to disappoint because of its ridiculous, farfetched storyline.The script managed to disappoint especially since the viewer is left with this feeling that some editing would have worked well too.
The lead actors, Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi, managed to do an okay job in engaging the audience.The supporting cast were also not notable unlike usual movies in the comedy genre.
The biggest disappointment was that while Gatta Kusthi could have been a lot more, it just ended up being a comedy entertainer that failed to be entertaining at a lot of points.Overall, Gatta Kusthi is a totally skippable comedy entertainer.
