Kaapa: A Violent Saga Of The Thugs Of Travancore

Anand Aravind was having a good day until he met the cop waiting at his house. Returning from the obstetrician's clinic, Anand and Binu are going to be parents soon. But the cop who has come to take the census, turns their entire lives up and down. Unbeknownst to Anand and Binu, Binu's name is being used by a local gangster group as their gang's head. And the said gang, which is actually headed by Latheef, is committing crimes under her name. Thus, Binu has been recognized by the Kerala Police as a wanted, absconding criminal. Thus begins Anand's struggles to clear Binu's name from the Kaapa list. When the cop promises to clear Binu's name from the list for a lumpsum amount, Anand jumps at the chance. But this just sets in motion a chain of events that will bring the rival gangs together for a savage face-off. Latheef's gang is constantly at war with Kotta Madhu's gang. A tall, towering ganglord, Prithviraj in his bright and white shirt, is not afraid to get his hands dirty or bloody. He repents his past deeds, but only when it is convenient for the movie's plot. He is a family man, who is also vying for a seat in the local municipal elections. Madhu is trying to leave his past behind, but his deeds have a way of catching up to him. The movie is directed by Shaji Kailash. Asif Ali plays Anand, a naive, IT guy who is struggling to have a normal life with his wife and future baby. Aparna Balamurali plays Pramila, Prithviraj's wife. Her role is much more cemented in the latter part of the movie. Anna Ben plays the role of Binu Thrivikraman, another role that is limited by time and creativity. Jagadeesh and Dileesh Pothan add menace to their characters, making this gangster saga and enjoyable watch. I don't know if it was a foreshadowing of the coming part, but we are here for a standoff between the two women heading a gangster feud. Kaapa is now streaming on Netflix.
